I am drawn to the elements, Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. Working with clay allows direct contact with each element. Earth is the medium with which I create, water is used to shape the clay, air is necessary for drying the work before it is set to fire which turns the clay to stone.
I find inspiration in nature, the texture of lichen, smooth stones, or tree bark, flocks of birds flying, the way new leaves unfurl, patterns found in flowers, colors of the earth and sky and the way nature has the capability to erode and deteriorate over time leaving hints of what was. I enjoy having creative time in the studio to pay attention to the way that the clay responds to my touch.
My goal is to create beautifully functional pieces that bring joy to people in their everyday lives and to offer a work that is joined through simple design in form and function
